The 2015 Estate Reserve Petite Sirah grapes came from the Becker Vineyards Estate in Stonewall, TX. These are some of the first vines you see when visiting our winery. Our 20 year old Petite Sirah vines are producing what we feel are the best grapes to date.
Harvested in mid-August, the grapes were fermented in two different lots, using two different yeasts to compliment the flavor profiles of Petite Sirah’s parent grapes: Syrah and Peloursin. We then subjected the wine to a 10-day post-fermentation maceration for a full development of the tannins and structure. The wine was then aged in 80% French oak and 20% American oak barrels for 16 months, with 20% new oak.
Our 2015 Estate Reserve Petite Sirah is a wonderful, inky purple wine with an aromatic allure of dark spice and earth. Enticing your senses with concentrated blueberries, blackberries, and intense violets, the palate becomes an exhibition of dark berry fruits, dark plums, and brambly, jammy notes with oak-aged vanilla, toast and coffee. This wine is a great example of a high extracted bold Texas wine. This tannin forward wine will age well for the next 10+ years.
Aromatics: Bright fruit and spice with hints of dark chocolate and earth
On the palate: Brown spice, plum and blueberry with bold tannins
Pairing: Well marbled red meat, lamb, your favorite burgers, brie cheese – any fatty rich foods
