We are always proud to release the current vintage of what has come to be our flagship wine. The 2014 Raven is an on-going relationship between Becker Vineyards and Drew Tallent Vineyards in Camp Aire, Texas. It’s the granitic soil that defines the mineral terroir of Mason County.
Blending this wine is always a journey of pairing the best individual Malbec and Petit Verdot lots. This year, we found adding a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon provided a subtle, velvety texture we could not omit. Once blended, Raven was aged an additional year in French and American oak allowing further development of oak and fruit components.
The small, inky berries of the Petit Verdot provide the intensely rich color and depth while the Malbec lends bright acidity and fruit forwardness. The strong tannic structure will allow this wine to age for some time as the spiced notes and fruit mature. We strongly urge you to buy multiple bottles, drink now and lay the others down for up to 10 years. We recommend a minimum of 30 minutes decanting.
Aromatics: Leather, cellar must, herbaceous notes, Bing cherries, allspice and brown sugar
On the palate: Spicy, bright acidity, rose, baking spices, vanilla, black pepper
Pairing: Rich beef, roast wild game, pork and veal, aged cheeses
